The popular Late Model division of Riverhead Raceway’s NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series received a double dose of good news this week when two seasonal sponsors were announced shortly before opening night. Safelite Auto Glass will return for a second season with the Late Models, with James M Becht Construction coming on board for their freshman season.

    Roger Oxee of Peconic will start his title defense this Saturday night May 6th in the Late Models after enjoying his first career championship in 2005. Oxee is also the all-time leading winner of Late Model main events at Riverhead and he’ll have plenty of tough drivers to contend with. Included among them will be Scott Kulesa a former champ himself, “Mighty” Mike Mortimer, Jarrod Hayes, Greg Kleila, Dave Brigati, Kevin Metzger, “Jumping” Jack Orlando, Dennis Krupski and “rookie” Dan Turbush.

    Safelite Glass backed the class in 2005 and returns for the 2006 season with an expanded mobile service territory to compliment four Long Island locations. The Safelite Glass night at the races will be announced in the days to come.

    Meanwhile James M. Becht Construction enters their first season as a seasonal Late Model sponsor after backing a 50-lap main event last year. James Becht himself is a racer recently winning his first Charger feature event two years ago. However his bustling business will find him putting popular Steve Ratti of Manorville in his Charger for 2006. The Becht Construction night is set for Saturday evening June 17th.

    The Late Models will be just one of six NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series divisions in action this Saturday night May 6th on opening night, as they’ll be racing along with the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks. Heat races will start at 4:30 pm and main event action will go green at 6:00 pm.
