RIVERHEAD OPENS 2006 SLATE
WITH DOUBLEHEADER THIS WEEKEND

The waiting is finally over for Long Island race enthusiasts as this weekend Barbara and Jim Cromarty will usher in another exciting race season with a doubleheader weekend at Riverhead Raceway. Saturday night May 6th will find all six NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series divisions in action, while Sunday afternoon will feature a complete Enduro race program being presented.

One thing is certain about the 2006 opener everyone is hoping a repeat performance from 2005 doesn’t occur as the first two weeks of the season were lost to weather.

Chris Young of Calverton hopes to start the 2006 campaign off like he did in ’05 with an opening night NASCAR Modified victory and he’ll be well prepared in a new 2006 Troyer Engineering machine debuting Saturday night. Bill Park, the 2005 Modified champion will be among Young’s chief rivals as will Wayne Anderson, Dan Jivanelli, Chuck Steuer, Howie Brode, Ken Heagy, Sal Accardi Jr. and John Denniston. The opening night NASCAR Modified feature will be a 35-lap affair.

Other drivers hoping to kick off their 2006 season with an opening night win like they did in 2005 will be Roger Oxee of Peconic in the Late Models, Tom Kraft of Patchogue in the Figure Eights, Tommy Walkowiak of Sound Beach in the Blunderbusts and Frank Dumicich Jr. of Mastic Beach in the Super Pro Trucks. The winner of the opening night Charger feature will be new from 2005, as champion Dan Turbush moves to the Late Model class for ’06.

The Late Model feature will be 25 circuits while the remaining four classes will each run a 20-lap main event. Qualifying heats will start at 4:30 pm with feature event racing at 6:00 pm.

Literally just hours after the NASCAR stock cars raise the curtain on their season the Enduro drivers will do the very same Sunday afternoon at 12:30 pm. Every type of Enduro class will be run featuring the grand Enduros who’ll be joined by the 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder, 4-Cylinder and 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro. A Car Rollover Contest and One-On-One Spectator Drags will compliment the program.
