2005 Charger
Review
by J.A.
Ackley, "Professor"
Peter Milano
Well it's that time once again, with the season fast
approaching, the grade reports are rolling in! This year,
not only the Professor has his say, so does the Jam Man - J.A. Ackley.
In addition to the "Jam Panel of Performance Review," we
will give you, the fans, a chance to grade the competitors
as well.
1) Dan
Turbush
#8 Carpet Express Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
DYNAMITE!
was Dan's 2005 performance. Dynamite Dan ran
tough and hard all season long, but it also
seemed he might have raced with his head
more than his bumper in 2005. He brought
home his third straight championship, but I
was little surprised to see the win column
with only one win. This was the last full
season in the division he's called home for
many years, Turbush walked away with the
title in hand and a smile upon his face.

What a way to end a
career in a division. Turbush was
renown for his hard driving and rough ways.
However with age he has become a lot
smoother and more of a model champion. We're
looking forward to his exploits in the Late
Models and Trucks in '06!

2) Rusty
Turbush
#17x Lolly's Hut Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Rusty Turbush seemed to have his head
elsewhere besides the Charger division. Was
it the Modified that kept Rusty walking away
with a win and a championship in the Charger
division? He almost had his brother and lost
by a mere 10 points, finishing in second. If
his attention was in one division, we think
we may be calling him champ! A |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
This year it seemed Rusty
wasn't as focused on his Charger effort.
We can only imagine what would have happened
if he focused on the Chargers. In
2006, Rusty is concentrating on his Modified
effort and we hope his Charger success
finally carries over. A |

3) Justin
Bonsignore
#22x QuikDrop Chevrolet
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Bonsignore did not run like a
rookie at all. It raced like a
pure veteran behind the wheel of
the #22x. A veteran in go-karts,
Justin moved into one of the
toughest divisions and had an
amazing year. Through the grape
vine, it seems young Justin is
turning heads elsewhere, besides
Long Island. Seems people as far
as N.C. may have there eyes on
this young talented driver.
Maybe even a gong show? A

J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
I don't think there's a
person who wasn't amazed with Bonsignore
this year. To run with living legends
and nearly beat them at their own game was
amazing. It's amazing he didn't get a
win, as he certainly was worthy of one. A |

4) Robin
Vollmoeller, Sr.
#2 Solar Salon Tanning
Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Robin Vollmoeller Sr. still
races like the guy I grew up
watching racing at Islip and the
Poconos. 3 wins and 9 top tens
in 14 races. Will he be able to
set aside the wheel for good in
06'? When Robin is on and has
the lead, no one and mean no one
is going to catch him and pass
for the lead! Glad I got to see
many years of his driving
skills. Many drivers can learn
and will learn from his skills
at Riverhead Raceway. A
|
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
With so many drivers in
the Chargers known for using their bumper,
Vollmoeller has always been the good guy,
and it's nice to see nice guys finish first,
with three wins. It's a shame that
Robin has retired, as he is still amazing
behind the wheel. A |

5) Eric
Goodale
#05 RBSC Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Eric Goodale, seemed to have his
best season in '05. In a family
that is dedicated to racing, I
believe Eric will be the driver
that rises to the top in less
than 5 years. I believe he may
have the composure to race in
the modified class and come out
of the shadow of his brother
Kevin. Even though Eric didn't
see victory lane, he still had
many personal victories. I'm
excited to see him grow in '05.

The young gun has
certainly shown more maturity last year,
with the emphasis on consistent driving.
While he didn't earn a win, he was capable
of it at times. It's rumored that
Goodale will run a partial Charger schedule
in '06 and opt for SKs, and if that's the
case, look for the younger Goodale to
surprise. A- |

6) Rob
Tribuzio
#01 Tuckahoe Sales Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Tribuzio seemed to spread
himself a bit to thin this
season in the Chargers, as he
seemed to work more on the Late
Model. Even though he didn't
seem to run hard for the title,
he did walk away with a win. But
what hurt was the top 5's, with
only 2. It just didn't seem like
the Tribuzio we've seen in the
past in the Chargers. B-

J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
I think we all expected a
little more from the young gun Rob Tribuzio.
At times he ran brilliantly, such as the
night he not only won in Chargers, but in
the Late Models. Perhaps his focus was
spread thin, but maybe in 2006 he will do
better. B |

7) Mike
Bologna
#00 PCHS Engines Chevy
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Mike Bologna actually had a good year on
paper. I don't remember his season as well
as it looks. 1 win with 5 top fives and 9
top tens in 14 races. But what I remember of
seasons past, he may have taken a few steps
back. B- |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
Bologna always seems to
quietly sneak into the top 5 and top 10
without much fanfare. On paper he had
a decent year, including a win, but I guess
we, as racing reporters expect more fanfare.
But he didn't have a bad year at all. B |

8) Chris
McGuire
#89x Wrestling Cage Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Chris McGuire, shows how tough this division
is and also came home with a win. But lack
of consistency hurt him with 3 top fives and
9 top tens. C+ |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
McGuire seemed to have
matured into a better driver than his stats
support. He once again visited victory
lane and he seemed less timid this year than
last. While his driving was better,
unfortunately the stats speak for itself.
Expect McGuire to surprise in '06.

9) Chris
Turbush
#81 Lepage Millworks Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
I thought Chris Turbush would of
had a better season. Was the
family concentrating on Papa
Turbush's toys? Either way Chris
did muscle his way to 2 wins.
Chris has to be an early
favorite to win the title in
'06. B-
|
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
How did Chris Turbush
finish this low? Turbush had one of
the cars to beat but in the end he never
finished as strong as he was, with the
exception of two solid wins. We
expected more, and in 2006 he will lead the
pack as he is slated to inherit his father's
throne. C+ |

10) Mike
Coll
#61 Continental Marble
Pontiac
2005 Profile |
"The
Professor" Peter Milano, Pit Bull Reporter |
Coll is a young impressive driver, but it
all didn't come together to complete the
season. Former Blunderbust division driver,
Coll needs the extra push to get him to next
level. Is it car? Is it personnel? But, when
Coll finds that extra something, watch out.
It just maybe experience! C |
J.A.
Ackley, Chief Director of LongIslandJam.com |
2005 was Coll's break out
year, even though in the Chargers his stats
don't show it. Coll has impressed in
the Late Models and he has seemed to find
his niche there. However, in Chargers
he just didn't have the season he should
have, although it was a good one
nevertheeless. C |
