RIVERHEAD FIGURE
EIGHTS RACE
FOR CROMARTY CUP SATURDAY
This Saturday night May 13th the
Figure Eight stars will step into the spotlight on the six division
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program at Riverhead Raceway when they battle
in the Cromarty Cup 25. Double points will be on the line for the Figure
Eights with the Charger class also racing for double points in a 30-lap
tilt on the same card.
“TK” Tom Kraft of Patchogue is the defending race winner of the
Cromarty Cup from 2005 when the race actually opened up the season after
two straight rainouts. Kraft enters the 2006 season armed with a new
major sponsor, Four Seasons Sunrooms which has Tom and car owner Mitch
Butruch raring to race. Out to wrestle the Cromarty Cup away from Kraft
will be defending Figure Eight champion George Sprague, Roger Maynor,
Carl Baxter, Ken Hyde, Tom Ferrara, Paul Specht and “Slim” Jim
Donaldson.
No matter who wins track owners Barbara and Jim Cromarty will be
waiting the arrival of the race winner to award that well deserving
talent the Cromarty Cup in honor of Barbara’s birthday.
Like their Figure Eight counterparts, the Chargers will race in
their first of three double point races of 2006 in a 30-lap contest with
time trial qualifying. With numerous changes among the roster of drivers
in the class for the new season the field is wide open in this main
event. Chris Turbush of Riverhead will try to keep the family name at
the top of the points race all season long and this race would be a
great springboard in that effort. Other drivers to keep an eye on will
be Chris McGuire, Brad Van Houten, Kevin Orlando, Rob Tribuzio, Chris
Beutler and Garret Frabizio.
Not to be counted out are two drivers returning to the cockpit for
2006 as Steve Ratti and Henry Cataldo will try to drive their new rides
to victory lane. Rookie drivers in the class, but having laps of track
time at Riverhead who also could take the win will be Mike Schwarz and
Ralph Beaver.
Joining the action packed program will be the NASCAR Modifieds, Late
Models, Blunderbust and Super Pro Trucks. Time trials for the Chargers
will start at 4:00 pm and feature event racing goes green at 6:00 pm.
