Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty have announced an exciting slate of events for the traditional Memorial Day Weekend doubleheader at the quarter mile entertainment facility. Highlighting the weekend of racing will be a Full Size School Bus Figure Eight race and 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby on Saturday night May 27th as part of the NASCAR stock car program.
    The 2006 season marks the 30th in auto racing for Barbara and Jim Cromarty and by far the events set for Memorial Day weekend this year are the wildest to date. Saturday May 27th with a special 5: 00 pm start time to feature event racing the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will find the NASCAR Modifieds in action along with the Late Models, Chargers and Blunderbusts.
    Once all the stock car racing has been completed the Full Size School Bus Figure Eight race will take to the track once again providing breathtaking near misses at the “X”. All the while drivers like “Slim” Jim Donaldson, Bob “Whiplash” Genovese and others will try to maneuver these huge yellow machines around the tight confines of Riverhead. Normally the results are wild and unpredictable.
    If that isn’t enough to get the crowd excited then making their way to the track will be the 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby contestants for another bone jarring and metal crashing tilt. The smaller 4-Cylinder cars over the past few seasons at Riverhead provide just as many hard hits as their larger rivals.
    Then on Sunday afternoon the traditional Enduro program for the Holiday weekend will find a Blindfold Taxi Cab race spicing up an already fun afternoon. This event debuted in 2005 at Riverhead and was among the more popular family entertainment races for young and old alike. The Super Pro Trucks of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series will race a 20-lap feature.
    The Sunday May 28th show will go green at 12:30 pm and feature a full compliment of Enduros including the Grand, 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder, 4-Cylinder and 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro. One On One Spectator Drags are also part of the days racing which has a Monday May 29th rain date.
