Pauch, Wanat, Grocholski and
Sager Share Glory in NEETS
“Firecracker Smacker” Wins
St. Johns, PA - The ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car
Series fourth points race of the ’06 season, tagged the “Firecracker
Smacker” took place Sunday at Mountain Speedway. Despite computer
problems, which were apparently caused by a passing lightening
storm, all of the scheduled enduros were completed. The fans
witnessed Tim Pauch pick up his second 6/8 cylinder win of the
season, along with Shaun Wanat’s first victory in the trux
division. Both Joe Grocholski and Harry Sager grabbed the wins in
the split four cylinder enduro races.
First on the card was the Cascioli Roofing 6/8-cylinder division for
a 100-lap enduro. Robin Schewire led the 50-car field to the
green from the pole, but “Dr. Destruction” Howie Bott grabbed the
top spot before one lap was completed. Richard Petey and Daryl DeBetta followed for second and third. With four laps in the books,
Petey overtook the lead and DeBetta came to second. Only seven laps
later, DeBetta overtook Petey for the lead, but contact with a
lapped machine slowed the leader, which allowed Petey to close back
in and regain the position. At the halfway point Petey continued to
lead over Bott, Terry Nansteel. Tim Pauch and Tom Moses, but TJ
Kapish and Bob Wink began to make a bid for the top five. The red
flag flew on lap sixty-two when DeBetta slammed head on into the pit
entrance guide rail. Although his car appeared to be totaled,
DeBetta climbed from the machine under his own power. Under the
same red, Bott headed pit side with problems on his machine and was
not able to continue.
With ten laps remaining, Petey continued out front, but Pauch
closed in quickly. On the following lap, out of turn two, Bob Kulik
spun right in front of the leaders. Pauch took the low line and
Petey drove up high. Petey got caught up in the incident for a
split second and Pauch came out in command. Pauch remained smooth
and flawless over the remaining laps and picked up his second win of
the season over Petey, Kapish & Smith (tied for third), Mark Paine
and Wink.
Next the NEETS Custom Classic TRUX took to the speedway for a
50-lap enduro. Richard Petey started from the pole, but before one
lap was completed, Frank Katona found himself in command. Katona
stayed out in front ahead of James Badalato and Shaun Wanat. Roughly
six laps in, Wanat overtook Badalato and set his sights on Katona.
On lap thirteen, Wanat raced by Katona and into the top spot.
Badalato followed for second and Rob “the kid” McCormick, Bobby
“Peaseman” Pease and John Cozza began to close in on second. Cozza
moved into second near lap thirty-five, but didn’t have enough laps
to reel in the leader. After running a red flag free race, Wanat
grabbed his first TRUX victory over Cozza, Pease, Badalato and
McCormick.
Thunderstorms rolled in after the race and NEETS promoter,
Billy Bartley decided to wait on the weather. Bartley had a quick
meeting with the Steel Seal four cylinder drivers and the outcome
was two 50-car field’s, split into two 25-car fields, in which each
ran 50-lap enduros.
The first of the two 50-lappers showcased Bob Wohlegemuth and
Bob Darde leading laps early on, but when it was all said and done,
Joe Grocholski grabbed the lead with eighteen laps in the books and
cruised off to victory over Darde, Tim Pauch, Mike Racho and Brad
Vollmoeller.
During the second 50-lapper the fans in the stands witnessed
Harry Sager grab the top spot from pole sitter Bob Haeger on the
start. “High groove” Harry Sager never looked back and dominated
the event over Shaun Wanat, Duane Garrison, John Bittoni and Richie
Haegele.
The NEETS charity of choice for the event was the Woman’s
Resource Center. One Dollar from each general admission will be
donated to the cause.
The next ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series
event is the “Cartoon-Duro”, which is set for Sunday, July 30th.
On the card for the day are the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cylinders,
along with the Steel Seal four cylinders. All drivers are urged to
decorate their vehicles in cartoon themes for the running of the
100-lap “Sponge Bob 100” and the “Plankton 100” events. All the
action will begin at 2 PM. Grandstand admission pricing is $7 for
ages seven and older. Children six and younger are admitted for
free. The NEETS charity of choice is the Checkered Dreams charity.
