CARQUEST AUTO
PARTS TOM BALDWIN 77
SET FOR RIVERHEAD JULY 29TH
One of the first dates that NASCAR Modified competitors and fans
alike circled when the 2006 Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series schedule was announced was the night of the Tom Baldwin
Memorial 77. The 2nd annual running of the race in honor of “Tiger”
Tom will be brought to you by CARQUEST Auto Parts, a long time
sponsor of NASCAR Modified racing up and down the east coast.
The 2005 inaugural running of the 77-lap contest arguably was
one of the best NASCAR Modified features of the season at the
quarter mile oval where great open wheel action unfolds week after
week. Wayne Anderson wrestled the race lead away from John Fortin on
lap 61 of the race that kept fans at the edge of their seat.
Anderson, a former five-time track champion would go on to win the
race, his 29th career triumph. Wayne would love nothing more than
to make career win number 30 at the 2006 CARQUEST Auto Parts Tom
Baldwin Memorial.
The race, a single point affair will again feature time trial
qualifying along with lap money that will make the race the most
lucrative regular main event of the year! Among those hoping to walk
off with the lion’s share of the purse and lap money are, Chuck
Steuer, Bill Park, Dan Jivanelli, J.R. Bertuccio, Frank Vigliarolo
Jr., Tom Rogers Jr, Dave Sapienza and John Denniston.
Rich Pallai of CARQUEST Auto Parts and all the local CARQUEST
Auto Parts dealers will be on hand to enjoy the night of racing, as
will Tom Baldwin Jr., his sister Tammy and other Baldwin family
members.
After a June 24th rainout the Barrasso & Sons Mason Supplies
Ernie Maynor Memorial for the “world-famous” Figure Eight cars will
be run as the class continues to remember “The Wrench”. All the top
guns in the class will be loaded for bear as defending race winner
Kenny Hyde will lead the troops into action. Ernie’s son Roger
Maynor, George Sprague, Tom Kraft, Mike Mujsce, Tom Ferrara and
“Slim” Jim Donaldson will all look to take the important win.
It will be a busy night for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. Four
great divisions will join the two special events with the Late
Models, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks all in action.
Time trials for the Modifieds will go green at 4:00 pm with main
event racing slated for 5:30 pm. For more information please call
