his spot in the fourth installment of the show after winning the CT
Classic presented by CARQUEST at Stafford Motor Speedway on Tuesday,
July 4, 2006.Bert Myers of Walnut Cove, NC, who has competed in the
Shootout since its inaugural year, also solidified his spot with a win
at Friendship Speedway on July 2, 2006. Howie Brode, earned himself a
spot in the race by virtue of his victory in the prestigious Tom Baldwin
Memorial Race at Riverhead Raceway on July 29, 2006. The trip would be
Brode’s first to the annual North-South Shootout™.
A host of other drivers will get the opportunity to join Blewett and
B. Myers as guaranteed starters as a full slate of qualifying races are
planned for both North and South of the Mason-Dixon in all of the major
Modified touring series. The guaranteed starters will get the
opportunity to race in one of Modified racing’s biggest events of the
season scheduled for November 3 &4, 2006 at Concord Motorsports Park.
Other Northern Qualifying races will include the upcoming True Value
Modified Racing Series event at Star Speedway in Epping, NH on August
12, 2006. Adding to the excitement that is already building at Thompson
International Speedway, all three Modified series events of “Modified

Baldwin Memorial and Modified Mania at Thompson,” said Race Promoter
Charles Kepley of Lexington, NC, “and to have the opportunity to work
with the staff and competitors of all the great speedways that
participate by hosting qualifying races.”
A complete qualifying schedule is expected for the Southern Tour as
well. The Friendship qualifier held on July 2nd was the first of what
is hoped to be a five-race Southern qualifying race schedule. In 2005,
guaranteed starters came from Caraway and Ace Speedways as well as the
historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. A complete 2006
schedule will be released as soon as it becomes available.
“We continue to work with the race promoters down South,” continued
Kepley, “to create a race schedule for Southern qualifiers that is
beneficial to the competitors and the fans.”
The SK-type Modifieds will also have qualifiers with events for the
SK Modifieds® at the Stafford Motor Speedway and Waterford Speedbowl,
the Sunoco Modified division at the Thompson International Speedway, and
the NASCAR Modifieds at Wall Township Speedway. At Stafford the winner
on Friday, September 1, 2006 will get the nod while the guaranteed
starter from the Waterford Speedbowl will be determined on Saturday,
August 12, 2006. Thompson’s Sunoco Modified winner on August 31, 2006
will secure their spot in the November 4, 2006 main event. The date for
Wall has yet to be determined. Finally, the SST Modified Series out of
upstate NY will select a track on their touring 2006 schedule to host a
North-South Shootout™ qualifying event.
