FULL SIZE SCHOOL
BUS DEMO SET FOR MILLER LITE NIGHT
AT RIVERHEAD SATURDAY
Those “chariots of
destruction”, better known, as Full Size School Buses will destroy
each other this Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway in the first of
two Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby events of 2006. The event
will highlight the Miller Lite night NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
program.
On the NASCAR stock car menu the main dish will be a 50-lap Late
Model feature with time trial qualifying. This will serve as their
third and final double points race of 2006. “”Mighty” Mike Mortimer
of Mastic Beach led the point standings as of press time and was
being chased by defending champion Roger Oxee of Peconic, Kevin
Metzger of Massapequa, Dave Brigati of Calverton and Greg Kleila of
Lindenhurst among others. The 50-lap Miller Lite night contest could
very well determine the driver to beat in the final weeks of the
2006 campaign.
The NASCAR Modifieds, Chargers and Blunderbusts will all join
the Late Models on the card and all run regular main events with the
Modifieds going 35-laps, while the Chargers and Blunderbusts will go
20 circuits.
Once the NASCAR racing has been completed it will then be time
for what has become one of the most popular events on the annual
Riverhead Raceway schedule, a Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby.
Just watching these mammoth machines try and negotiate the quarter
mile oval while delivering bone jarring hits is entertaining, but
the high level of competition makes it all that more enjoyable.
Among those expected to be in one of the “chariots of destruction”
will be Bob “Whiplash” Genovese, “Slim” Jim Donaldson, “Terrible”
Tim Farrell and many more colorful veteran drivers.
Time trials for the Late Models will start at 4:00 pm, with the
feature event racing to go green at 5:30 pm. For additional
