FITZGERALD SHINES IN RIVERHEAD RACEWAY GRAND ENDURO
Ray Fitzgerald of
Manorville topped a strong Grand Enduro field Sunday afternoon in a 50-lap
main event for his second win of the 2006. His first coming on opening day
May 7th.
On the track Fitzgerald steering the Constant Performance Chevy had to
endure a fight for the lead with both Bobby Pease and John Cozza before he
could lay claim to the victory. After the race Ray’s car along with other
top finishers underwent a stringent post race inspection, which he passed
nearly two hours after crossing the line.
In 8-Cylinder Enduro action Dominic Ranieri of East Northport ended a
long dry spell without a victory when he won in a 100-lap contest in his
Local Cesspools Chevy. In the nightcap it was a first career win for Tom
Lacoste of Stony Brook in his Auto Pro Auto Parts Chevy as Tom prevailed in
a 50-lap tilt.
In the 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro James Badalato of Lindenhurst drove the
Dan Jones owned Blue Point Auto Body Chevy to victory in a 60-lap affair for
his first win of 2006.
In the 6-Cylinder Enduro it was Gene Burbol of Brookhaven taking the win
in his Gene’s 112 Auto Repair entry in a 30-lap event, while Shawn Wanat of
Riverhead won once again in a 60-lap 4-Cylinder Enduro in his Spit’s Speed
Shop machine.
In Spectator Drag action Don Carasiti of St. James took the victory, his
first of 2006 in his Pontiac Firebird. Brian Pallone who was undefeated all
season long in his Honda Civic did not compete ending his perfect run.
