Vanderbilt Cup Returns to Jericho
In celebration of
Jericho’s role in the first international auto races held in the United
States, Howard Kroplick will review the six Vanderbilt Cup Races held on
Long Island from 1904 to 1910 at Jericho Public Library on Sunday,
October 15, 2006. Mr. Kroplick is a leading researcher and lecturer on
these races and has accumulated a large collection of race memorabilia.
During the
presentation, the audience will relive the time when auto racing
experienced its earliest triumphs, and when Jericho Turnpike was at the
heart of these thrilling and dangerous contests. A compilation of rarely
seen Vanderbilt Cup Race films will be shown and special items from Mr.
Kroplick’s collection will be on display.
Come join us for what promises to be an exciting evening for fans of
Long Island history and auto racing.
