Competitors to Run for Points in 2007
The cars and stars of the Riverhead Raceway Enduro
Series received some good news recently when Barbara and Jim Cromarty
announced that they would be racing for points in addition to purse money at
the quarter mile speed plant in 2007. The 2007 Enduro season will open
Sunday May 6th at 12:30 pm with a full slate of racing on tap.
During the October meeting that Riverhead Raceway chief steward Bill
Denniston holds with the Enduro owners and drivers the Grand Enduro
competitors asked for a point system for the new season. Well, when
approached with the idea by Denniston, Barbara and Jim Cromarty took a good
for one, good for all stance and decided that all classes of Enduros will
race for points in 2007. Joining the Grand Enduro troops in 2007 will be the
8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder, 4/6-Cylinder Trucks and 4-Cylinder Enduro classes.
The point systems that will be used will be 100-points for a win, 95 for
runner-up and 90 markers for third. There is a five point breakdown between
positions to 10th which pays 55 points and from 11th back everyone will be
credited with 50-points for taking part in their Enduro race. The only race
that will not pay points will be the second 8-Cylinder Enduro, as many
drivers who were out early in the first 8-Cylinder race re-register for the
second race. However because others may have had a crash or mechanical
failure in the first race track management felt it would not be fair to pay
points in the second race as everyone might not be able to race that event.
The May 6th opening day for the Sunday Enduro series will be followed by
events on May 27th, June 17th, August 12th and September 2nd. In July the
Grand Enduros will race July 7th, the 8-Cylinders on July 14th, the
4-Cylinders on July 21st and the 4/6-Cylinder Trucks on July 28th as they
all take a turn with a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Saturday night
program. The Enduro season will conclude with a Saturday night show of their
own on September 22nd at 4:00 pm.
A new era in Enduro racing will dawn in 2007 at Riverhead Raceway with
the first ever champions to be crowned in the various divisions. For 2007
