Nextel Cup Cars to Kick Off 2007 Riverhead
Season
Coming in less than two weeks,
on Saturday, April 21, 2007, is what every race fan has been waiting for –
the smells, the sounds of high-octane racecars taking to the historic
quarter-mile bullring known as Riverhead Raceway. Fans will be able to take
in a FREE taste of racing, and this year besides six divisions of exciting
racing, there will be more festivities to inaugurate the new season.
Courtesy of Riverhead Raceway, Marrzmotorports, and Trailer Transport, you
will be able to witness two real NASCAR Nextel Cup cars take to the track, a
street-legal Dale Earnhardt #3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet replica, a living
racing encyclopedia – Marty Himes of The Himes Museum, everyone’s favorite
Turn 1 Cowboys and much more!
It’s not often you can see a
NASCAR Nextel Cup car in your backyard on Long Island. And it’s nearly
non-existent that you’ll see two at the same place. But folks you’re in for
a real treat. Two race-used NASCAR Nextel Cup cars will take to the track
for an exhibition race. The #45 Brawny Dodge, formerly driven by Kyle Petty
and currently owned by Mike Penso and the West Islip Car Wash & Detail
Center, along with the #43 Chevrolet, formerly the #95 Sadler Brothers
Racing entry, owned by Scott Rose and his Lee Miles Transmission shop of Bay
Shore will duke it out once again. Wait it gets better… The jockeys for
these steeds will be the father & son duo, Eddie Jr. and Eddie III of the
legendary Brunnhoelzl racing family. Eddie Jr., a legend in his own right,
with 22 career wins at the historic Riverhead oval will do battle with a
Modified track champion, his son Eddie Brunnhoelzl III. Will age and
treachery beat out youth and enthusiasm? You will have to come down on
Saturday, April 21 to find out.
And while you are there you can
also do the following. Behind turn 3, Mike Barnikel will have his renowned
Dale Earnhardt #3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo replica, a site to see
for any true diehard Dale fan. In addition, a historic racecar from
yesteryear will be on hand along with its owner– the #250 1956 Ford owned by
Marty Himes of the Himes Museum of Racing Nostalgia in Bay Shore. Feel free
to discuss old time racing with Marty Himes, as he is a walking, talking,
breathing encyclopedia of Long Island Racing history.
Lastly, Riverhead Raceway
wouldn’t be Riverhead Raceway without its own Turn 1 fanatics, the Turn 1
Cowboys. Meet and greet the Turn 1 Cowboys – Jimmy Walsh and John Thompson,
and receive a free autographed picture.
Special thanks are in order for
the organization of this great day. Special thanks to J.A. Ackley and
Richie Grodski of LongIslandJam.com, Bill Denniston of Trailer Transport &
Riverhead Raceway, Dennis Freese of Oval Speed Unlimited, Marty Himes of the
Himes Museum, Scott Rose and Mike Penso, and last but not least Bob of
Marrzmotorsports, for helping put this all together.
