Riverhead NASCAR Modified Victory Worth
$2,000 in 2007
Riverhead Raceway promoters
Barbara and Jim Cromarty announced Friday that a victory in a 35-lap NASCAR
Modified feature event will be worth $2,000 to the winning driver. The
NASCAR Modifieds will headline the Saturday May 5th opener for the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series at the famed quarter mile oval.
The announcement came on Friday the 13th and indeed that could turn out
to be a lucky day for those fortunate to visit Riverhead Raceway victory
lane in a NASCAR Modified in 2007. During the 2006 season Riverhead chief
Steward Bill Denniston polled many of the veteran NASCAR Modified drivers
who indicated they’d like to see more money on top of the purse for the
20-car field.
Barbara and Jim Cromarty went to work and moved money around in the
existing purse, which pays a base of $9,795 weekly before any sponsor, or
NASCAR sanction money is added. With the winner taking home $2,000, the
runner-up will now pocket $1,000 and third will be worth $900, with $800 for
fourth and $700 for fifth. It will still remain $175 to take the green in a
20-car field.
“We’ve both feel like Riverhead Raceway has the most talented and
competitive Modified field weekly in the country” Barbara and Jim noted, “to
win here is no easy task and the prize for doing should reward the effort of
the winning driver and his team. By adjusting the existing purse to make the
top prize $2,000 before seasonal sponsorship money is added we feel as
though the competition for victory is only going to increase further.”
The NASCAR Modifieds will be the only purse of the six NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series divisions that will be adjusted for 2007.
Chuck Steuer of Bohemia will defend his 2006 NASCAR Modified title
starting May 6th and among those out to keep him from making it two in a row
are Bill Park, Wayne Anderson, Chris Young, Howie Brode, Justin Bonsignore,
Dave Sapienza, Mike Andrews Jr. and J.R. Bertuccio.
