Szegedy Sets Fast Time - Icebreaker Postponed
Until April 22
THOMPSON, Conn. (April 14, 2007) -- Todd Szegedy began the 2007
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Season by setting a new track record in
qualifying for Icebreaker at Thompson International Speedway. Szegedy, the
2003 series champion, toured the 5/8th mile speedway in 18.457 seconds for
an average speed of 121.905 seconds. Szegedy’s fast lap bettered the old
mark of 18.505 seconds set by Bob Polverari in 2001.
Because of the threat of inclement weather on Sunday, April 15
the race has been postponed until Sunday, April 22.
Former Champion Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. was second
fastest with a speed of 121.340 mph. Zach Sylvester of Lebanon, Conn. was
third fastest with a speed of 120.948 mph. Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. Ted
Christopher of Plainville, Conn. and Richard Savary of Canton, Mass. Rounded
out the Top-6 in qualifying.
The Top-6 qualifiers drew for starting position and the draw resulted
in a complete invert. Savary will lead the field to green while Szegedy will
start 6th.
Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. is the defending champion of the
Icebreaker
