Matt Hirschman Sets a New Mark in Qualifying
at Stafford
STAFFORD SPRINGS, Conn. (April 28, 2007) Matt Hirschman of
Northampton, Pa. set a new track record in qualifying for Sunday’s Carquest
Tech Net Spring Sizzler NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford Motor
Speedway. Hirschman’s time of 18.009 seconds for an average speed of 99.950
mph bested the previous mark set last year by Todd Szegedy of 18.091 seconds
and an average speed of 99.497 mph.
It was the second consecutive race in which the qualifying track
record had been broken. Szegedy set fast time at Thompson International
Speedway two weeks ago to establish a new track record there.
Matt Hirschman was 45/100th of a second faster then his father, Tony,
in qualifying. Tony Hirschman, a five time series champion, averaged 99.701
mph in his qualifying run. Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill, Conn. was third
fastest with a speed of 99.673 mph. Last week’s winner, James Civali of
Meriden, Conn., was fourth fastest with a speed of 99.448 mph. Ted
Christopher of Plainville, Conn. rounded out the Top-5 in qualifying with a
speed of 99.179 mph.
The Top-8 qualifiers drew for starting position. Tony Hirschman will
start from the pole and will be joined by Ruggiero on the front row. Civali
and Matt Hirschman will make up row number two.
