Falls to Inclement Weather Saturday
Right in the middle of the first
round of afternoon practice for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at
Riverhead Raceway rain began to fall and with moisture in the air and a
forecast for temperatures in the low to mid-40’s Barbara and Jim Cromarty
decided to cancel the night’s racing.
The 50-lap Late Model feature set for this past Saturday, their first of
three double point races on the season, will be run this Saturday May 26th
with the NASCAR Modifieds, Chargers and Blunderbusts rounding out the stock
car portion of the card. The Saturday evening program, the first of two on
Memorial Day Weekend at Riverhead, will also feature a Full Size School Bus
Figure Eight race and a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby.
The 30-lap Blunderbust event set for May 19th that is also a double
point race has been moved to Saturday August 4th when the NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour visits for the Miller Lite “Flash” Tour contest. The Chargers
will run a 30-lap double point race in support of the WMT show as well.
After all the NASCAR stock car racing, Full Size School Bus Figure Eight
race and 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby have been completed this Saturday May
25th the attention will then shift to Sunday afternoon May 26th. A full card
of Enduro racing will be presented at 12:30 pm and on that card the Super
Pro Trucks will make their first Sunday matinee appearance of the year. Also
a Blindfolded Taxi Cab race will be presented with this event among the most
entertaining races held on the quarter mile oval.
On the Enduro slate will be the Grand Enduro, 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder,
4/6-Cylinder and 4-Cylinder Enduros, which will be joined by One-On-One
Spectator Drags. In the event of rain the show will be run Monday May 27th
at 12:30 pm.
On Saturday May 25th the pits will open at 12;00 noon, spectator gates
at 3:00 pm with Late Model time trials set for 4:00 pm. Feature event racing
will go green after all the qualifying is completed at around 5:00 pm.
