Demolition
Derby Events to Pay Points at Riverhead in 2007
During an afternoon meeting on
April 28th the competitors of the Riverhead Raceway Demolition Derby events
were informed that much like the Enduro drivers in 2007, they’d also race
for points in the various forms of Demolition Derby contests. That formula
will come to fruition this Saturday evening when a 4-Cylinder Demolition
Derby will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock cars and Full
Size School Bus Figure Eight at the historic oval.
The point system for the Demolition Derby division will find the winner
of an event earning 100-points, the runner-up will collect 80-points with
the Fan’s Choice taking home 60 markers. All others who enter the event by a
specific date and compete in the Demo will be given 30-points for their
efforts. Gone for 2007 will be the Judge’s Choice as track officials felt it
would be in the best interest of all to pay the 80-points for the runner-up
or second to last car running.
Points will be paid in the 4-Cylinder, 8-Cylinder Demolition Derbies
scheduled in 2007 including the Miller Lite National championship on
September 15th. In a new twist for 2007 the Police Car Demolition Derby on
June 30th, the 8-Cylinder Nextel Cup Demolition Derby on July 7th and the
Taxicab Demolition Derby on September 1st will all be points paying races
towards the 2007 Demolition Derby championship. Teams will have to paint
their cars in the theme of the event and a regular Demolition Derby purse
will now be paid for these three contests.
The Mini School Bus Demolition Derby and the two Full Size School Bus
Demolition Derbies will not be points paying events, but are open to those
who can provide their own bus for a particular event.
For the first time in their long rich history of entertaining race fans
on Long Island a 2007 demolition Derby champion will be crowned in
September. Who will get off on the right foot this Saturday May 25th with a
win in the 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby? Come on out and enjoy a great night
of NASCAR stock car racing and family entertainment to find out.
