With races 3 and 4 under their belts, the Eastern Kart
Racing Association (EKRA) will have a few weeks off to rethink their game
plan or change their strategy for the upcoming races in July. The point
races in each division are a tight for the most part, with no one having
advantage over anyone. Some may have to go back to the drawing board and
see what they can change or improve on their go-karts to keep running up
front. Others will just have to stick to their original plan and hope for
the best.
One division in particular that might have a lot of
questions that need to be answered in these off weeks is the Lites. With
some newcomers and a few cagey veterans in this division, the racing
couldn't be any tighter. The racing is so close that the action is hot and
heavy each and every time they get on the high banked oval of Riverhead
Raceway. Some racers like Jason Agugliaro have more experience than most in
this division. Jason not only has won championships in go-karts, he also ran
a Super Pro Truck for Dave Brigati at Riverhead Raceway where he won a race
two seasons ago. He also has run 4-cylinder enduro cars for Marrzmotorsports
and entered a few demolition derbies too. Another driver with a lot of
experience is Kevin Orlando. Kevin also has a few go-kart championships
under his belt as Jason does. He also won a race in Riverhead Raceway’s
Saturday Night Charger division, in only a couple of times out in his first
season. Others in the Lites include relatively newcomers, such as Dean
Grunert and John Vullo, Jr, which have fewer years of experience under their
belt, which gives an advantage to guys like Jason and Kevin on a tough
Riverhead track. However, as Grunert and Vullo gain more experience, expect
the Lites to become a division to watch in 2007.
