Riverhead Racers to Remember Ernie Maynor Saturday

This Saturday evening June 23rd one of the most colorful personalities in short track racing will be remembered when Riverhead Raceway presents the annual Ernie Maynor Memorial by Barrasso & Sons Mason Supplies Figure Eight feature event. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Ernie “The Wrench” Maynor’s untimely passing at Islip Speedway. An 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby and Mini School Bus Figure Eight race will join the NASCAR stock cars on the program.
In what could be an ironic twist Roger Maynor of Bay Shore could very well be gunning for his 82nd career Figure Eight win in this race honoring his father who ran the #82 for many years. Roger, an employee of race sponsor Barrasso & Sons Mason Supplies had 81 career wins heading into action Saturday June 16th. Mike Mujsce of Westhampton Beach is the defending race winner and aside from Mike and Roger out for the prestigious win will be Tom Kraft, Ken Hyde, Paul Specht, Tom Ferrara and Tom Graff among others.
Rounding out the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series portion of the show will be the Debt Reduction Services night 35-lap NASCAR Modified feature. Debt Reduction Services is a new marketing partner with the Modifieds at the quarter mile oval in 2007. The Late Models and Blunderbusts will fill out the stock car entertainment on the evening.
A bone jarring, car destroying Demolition Derby for the heavyweight 8-Cylinder machines will surely leave fans on the edge of their seat, if they can even sit during the contest. Among those expected to take part in the second points paying contest of ’07 are Jimmy “Wildman Primmy” Hummel, Michael Rommeney, Bob Bennison, Bob “Whiplash” Genovese and many others.
As a salute to the end of school just the day before on Long Island, Barbara and Jim Cromarty will present a Mini-School Bus Figure Eight race with the likes of “Slim” Jim Donaldson and “Tornado” Tim Farrell among the participants.
Heat races will start at 4:00 pm with the feature events set for 5:00 pm. For further information please call the track office 631-842-RACE or visit our website at www.riverheadraceway.com
