It’s an annual one of the can’t
miss shows at Barbara and Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway Saturday night
June 30th when the Independence Day spectacular will again highlight the
2007 schedule at the historic quarter mile oval. A huge Fireworks display by
Long Island’s own Bay Fireworks will decorate the night sky with the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series program which will come to a smashing finish with
a Police Car Demolition Derby.
NASCAR Modified teams will be gearing-up for the Cromarty Cup 50 that
will highlight the NASCAR portion of the evening, the second of three double
point races on the 2007 slate for the class. Defending champion Chuck Steuer
of Bohemia along with early point leader for 2007 J.R. Bertuccio of
Centereach will be two of several drivers to watch in this race that will
use time trials qualifying. Others out to walk off with the valued Cromarty
Cup are Bill Park, Wayne Anderson, Sal Accardi Jr., Chris Young, Dave
Sapienza Dave Brigati, Dan Jivanelli Ken Heagy and Mike Andrews Jr.
Filling out the NASCAR Whelen All American Series show will be the
“world famous” Figure Eight stock cars, Chargers and Blunderbusts.
In an announcement made just a week ago Barbara and Jim Cromarty also
have added extra family entertainment to the show with the One-On-One
Spectator Drags. This single elimination, round robin tournament finds
spectators in their street legal cars going one-on-one for a lap around the
famed quarter mile oval. The winner will continue, while the loser watches
the rest of the contest from the infield.
Whether you’re a race fan or not, young or old there is nothing quite
like a huge aerial Fireworks display and June 30th Riverhead Raceway will be
the only place to be. Bay Fireworks, who year after year add more and more
of a variety to their program, are back again this year with another
breathtaking display.
To ice the cake if you will, the night will come to a crashing
conclusion when the annual Police Car Demolition Derby is presented, an
opportunity to perhaps get even as these cars of law enforcement crash each
other to ruin. The 2007 Police Car Demolition Derby will be a regular
points paying Demo event, open to all Demolition Derby drivers with a
regular Demo purse being paid for the event. Teams will need to make their
cars look like actual Police Cars, or if you can get your hand on an actual
Police Car bring it and crash it!
Time trials for the NASCAR Modified for the Cromarty Cup 50 will start
at 4:00pm, while the feature event racing and family entertainment events
will commence at 5:30pm. In the event of rain this show would then be run
Saturday evening July 7th!
