SCCA Solo2 Invades Riverhead July 15

The New York Region of the Sports Car Club of America will hold their next Solo2 event at Riverhead Raceway on Sunday, July 15th. The non spectator event will register drivers at 8:30 am with the first heat beginning at 10:00am.

Solo is the SCCA brand name for autocross competition. Solo events are driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience.

The last Solo2 event at Riverhead was held on June 17th. Over 70 cars competed on a path that maintained the characteristics of the Figure 8 course.

The vast majority of cars that compete in Solo2 are imports. Some of the major players in autocross include the Mazda Miata, Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru WRX, and Honda Civic.  It is not uncommon to also see some American muscle on the course including Mustangs, Chargers etc. A list of car classifications can be found here – http://www.scca.com/_filelibrary/File/solocategories.pdf

The cost to register for SCCA Solo2 is $40 for non SCCA members and $30 for NYR SCCA members.
