Jamie Tomaino Readies For Travel To Twin State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  (July 5,2007) – The year was 1985 and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was in its first year of competition. The touring series concept had been adapted for NASCAR’s oldest division that year and one of the stops was Twin State Speedway in Claremont, N.H. Richie Evans was the winner and it had been the series only visit until now.  After a 22 year absence the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to uniquely shaped 1/3-mile oval for the Allstate 100 on Sunday, July 8. It will be the second of three “Flash Format Events” scheduled in 2007.

Jamie Tomaino, the 1990 series champion, was among the competitors at Twin State back in 1985.

“I enjoyed racing there,” said Tomaino. “ Twin State is a drivers track and handling is very important. I am looking forward to returning.”

Tomaino enjoys racing at different locales, which is why the touring concept appealed to him back in 1985.

“Racing at new tracks is one of the strengths of this series,” said Tomaino. “For just about everyone this will be a new experience and I think all the teams are looking forward to it.”

Tomaino is the leader in career starts on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.     He has competed full time on the series since the inception. When the series started he was one of the young stars trying to compete with the veterans of modified racing.

“I was 27 when we went to Twin State ” said Tomaino. “I was the same age as a lot of the younger drivers on the series now like Donny Lia, and James Civali.”

Then he added jokingly, “It’s hard to remember what you did 23 years ago. I hope some of them will remember this race 23 years from now!”

Bud Pole qualifying is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. followed by twin 25-lap qualifying races. The Allstate 100 is scheduled to get the green at approximately 8 p.m. on July 8.
