Civali Triumphs at Twin State

James Civali of Meriden became the second multiple winner this year on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with a victory in the Allstate 100 at Twin State Speedway. Civali and Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. waged a torrid battle over the final thirty laps before Civali took the lead for good from Hirschman on lap 93 of the 117 lap distance event.
It was the second victory for Civali this season who won the season opener at Thompson, Conn. in April and the third of his career. Civali, who drives the Don King owned Ramar Hall Chevrolet also earned the Featherlite Most Improved Driver award for this event. Civali took the lead on lap 27 from Ronnie Silk and led al but one of the next 90 laps.
“The car was perfect tonight, “Matt Hirschman was real good on the restarts I did what I had to do to stay in front of him.”
Matt Hirschman’s second place finish moved him into second place in the series standings. Hirschman trails Donny Lia by 53 points. Finishing behind Hirschman in third was the Bud Pole Winner of the Event Ronnie Silk of Norwalk, Conn. who was the only other driver to lead a lap at Twin State besides Civali and Hirschman.
Point leader Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. finished fourth and Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn. rounded out the Top-5.
The race distance was extended to 117 laps because of caution laps in the first 50 laps which were scored.
The next event for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is at Riverhead Raceway on August 4.
