Madness Headed to Uptown Martinsville for TGIF
MARTINSVILLE, VA (August 15, 2007) – The roar of race cars and the sweet
sound of beach music will fill Uptown Martinsville on August 31.
Martinsville Uptown’s Premier TGIF Outdoor Concert will be
joined by a parade of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour cars through Uptown that
evening.
The sleek, powerful open-wheel Modifieds will weave their way
through uptown, winding up adjacent to the adjacent to the TGIF concert on
Church Street, where the legendary Band of Oz will be serving up their own
special brand of beach music all evening.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour cars will be in town for the
running of the Made In America Whelen 300 NASCAR Modified Tour race on
Saturday, September 1.
“We think this is going to be a special event,” said
Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. “It will give race fans a
chance to see the Modifieds up close and a chance to enjoy an evening of fun
at TGIF. And it will give everyone at TGIF a chance to see race cars up
close and meet and mingle with the drivers.”
The cars will be parked on the street next to the show most
of the remainder of the evening. All the drivers will be introduced on
staged and will be signing autographs at the cars.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Martinsville
Speedway to promote Uptown Martinsville to music and modified race car
fans. This will be a great evening to be in Uptown Martinsville,” said
Susan McCulloch, Executive Director of Martinsville Uptown Revitalization
Association.
The race cars will leave the Broad St. parking lot at roughly
7:45 p.m., head up Church St. then take a left on Lester St. and a left on
Main St. They will continue on Main until it dead ends at Moss St., take a
left on Moss, then a left on Church St. The cars will follow Church St, to
the site of the TGIF concert and park on the left side of the street.
Organizers expect at least 25 race cars to be involved in the
parade.
Admission price to TGIF is $7 with children under 12 admitted
free. Beverages and food will be sold onsite.
The event is a joint effort between Martinsville Uptown and
its TGIF sponsors, and Martinsville Speedway and NASCAR.

Speedway on Saturday, September 1, and is the only race run under the lights
at Martinsville Speedway each year. Race time is 8 p.m.
