School Superintendents Will Get Whelen Made In
America 300
Started
MARTINSVILLE, VA (August 28, 2007) – Youngsters in the crowd will
probably take notice when the command is given to start the engines for
the Made In America Whelen 300 at Martinsville Speedway Saturday night.
Two veteran educators, Dr. Sharon Dodson and Dr. Scott
Kizner, are co-grand marshals for the event and will get the race
started with the famous phrase “gentlemen start your engines.”
Dodson is the superintendent of the Henry County School
system and Kizner is the superintendent of Martinsville City School
system.
“With schools all across the country getting back in
session this time of the year, we felt it fitting to have the two local
school superintendents get our race started,” said Martinsville Speedway
president Clay Campbell.
Both superintendents said they were flattered by the
invitation to help with the start of the 300-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour race.
“I am honored to represent the school system as
Martinsville Speedway helps us kick off our school year,” said Dodson.
“I welcome the opportunity to join with Dr. Kizner and the city schools
in a night of exciting racing under the lights. It’s great that we’ve
all been able to team up for the NASCAR Made In America Whelen 300.”
“Being the grand marshal at a NASCAR race is one of the
great highlights of my career,” said Kizner. “As the Martinsville City
Public School system accelerates to academic excellence for all
students, I cannot think of any honor greater than being the grand
marshal and saluting our great students and teachers.”
The speedway is helping the two school systems kick off
their new year by offering discounted and even free tickets to students
and employees.
Adult admission to the Made In America Whelen 300 NASCAR
Modified Tour race is $20 with children six to 12 admitted for five
dollars.
The back-to-school special, though, allows children who
attend school in Martinsville and Henry County in grades K through 8 to
get in free. Students in grades 9-12 will be admitted for $5.
Parents of children in Martinsville and Henry County will
be admitted for $10, limit two per child.
All school system employees will be admitted for $10 each
with the option to purchase an additional ticket for the $10 price.
To take advantage of the discount, students, parents and
school system employees must fill out forms that were distributed to the
schools and present them at the Martinsville Speedway ticket office
window on or before the day of the Made In America Whelen 300.
The Made In America Whelen 300 is set to take the green
flag at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Qualifying is set for 5 p.m. Saturday
with an autograph session in the pits at 6:30 p.m.
Gates will open at noon on Saturday.
