Veteran Riverhead Raceway
public relations director and announcer Bob Finan announced today that he
would continue a long-standing Long Island racing tradition when he presents
the Long Island Automotive Swap Shop on Sunday October 28th at Riverhead
Raceway.
The swap shop was founded by
the late “Big” Bob O’Rourke at the Islip Speedway and has been presented for
nearly four decades ever since at Islip and Riverhead Raceway. “I can’t
thank Barbara & Jim Cromarty enough for allowing me to keep this great fall
event going in Bob’s memory” Finan said. “After Bob passed away Bill
Denniston kept the swap shop going and hopefully we’ll keep it going for
many more years to come.”
Bob also disclosed the swap shop will aid one of
stock car racing’s leading charities, “I will donate part of the proceeds to
the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina in the name of Bob O’Rourke
and “Tiger” Tom Baldwin.
The swap shop is a virtual racecar flea market for
anything from complete racecars, to engines, spare parts, and enclosed
trailers or for that matter anything automotive. Bob joked, “Heck if you’re
selling a 1974 Pinto, bring it out and try to sell it!” Drag cars and off
road vehicles are also welcome to the October 28th swap shop.
The East End Kart Racing go-karts will be in
action as well as part of the swap shop, “I want to thank Dave Brigati and
his EEKR officials for allowing us to share part of the pit area with us
that day,” Finan concluded.
Vendor space is just $20 per vendor spot, while
general admission for those 6-years of age and older is just $8 for both the
swap shop and go-kart racing. The usual pit fees for the EEKR action will
also apply.
The Long Island Automotive Swap Shop will run from
10:00 am until approximately 4:00 pm and the rain date will be Sunday
November 11th. There is no need to reserve vendor space ahead of time.
