Tony Ferrante Jr. set fast time
among 41 cars attempting qualifying for the WMT portion of the
race weekend, clocking in at 18.648 on his 2nd lap of
qualifying. His luck continued when the top 8 redrew, as he
picked the pole position. Donny Lia will start in 5th
after qualifying 4th, while Glenn Tyler qualified 18th,
and Kevin Goodale starts 30th and Joe Hartmann 32nd,
with both falling back on provisionals.
In other action of interest,
Jimmy Blewett, who will start 9th in the WMT race,
will start 3rd in the Sunoco (SK) Modified race after
winning the 3rd heat, and Dennis Krupski will start
28th, and Rusty Turbush 30th. Turbush had
to drop out of the 1st Sunoco Modified heat as his
engine was smoking badly, and hopefully, that has been fixed…In
the Pro Stocks, there are only 2 Long Island Regulars entered,
with Peter “Buzzy” Eriksen slated to start 11th in
his 68x, and Rusty Turbush going off in 30th spot in
the 08x car….in the Late Models, Rob Visconti will go off in 13th,
Garret Fabrizio 18th, and Thore Foss in 25th.
In feature races held on
Saturday evening, Jeremy McDermott finished 11th, Jon
Ellwood 14th, and Thore Foss 22nd. Foss
was running 12th when he was involved in a crash
early in the race in his new 57x Charger car, and was unable to
continue…The ARTS truck race was a wild one, with Tony Naglieri
running well before suffering damage in a 6 truck crash coming
off turn 4, which eliminated all involved.
That wraps of news of interest
from Thompson so far this weekend. We will have a full run down
of all the action on Monday after all the events are run.
News
and Notes: Jamie Tomaino okay after a hard crash into the
turn 1 wall at the end of his qualifying run, apparently caused
by a stuck throttle. Tomaino was able to walk to the ambulance,
and his crew spent more that a few hours rebuilding his right
front and side to prepare for Jamie’s start from 28th
in Sunday’s race….Thore Foss debuted a beautiful new Charger car
at Thompson, only to have the beauty marred when he was involved
in the tail-end of a crash in the Outlaw Late Model race. He’s
looking for additional sponsors for this new car, and it is a
nice piece, so hopefully a good sponsor will step up soon….Many
Riverhead regular drivers spectating at Thompson this weekend.
I’d list them all, but it might confuse you into thinking
they’re all in one race! Until next time, live well and be safe.
