Offseason Notes from Mountain Speedway

With Thanksgiving now in the rear view mirror, and Christmas fast approaching, Mountain Speedway management is continuing to put the pieces together for the 2008 racing season. Rules for all divisions competing at Mountain Speedway for the upcoming season are already available to give race teams the maximum time to prepare their cars for the annual Laurel Mall race car show, which is set to take place February 27-March 2. This is always a great opportunity for the race fans to preview the sleek racing machines that they can expect to see in action at the lightning fast, 1/3 mile asphalt oval located just minutes from the Hazleton area shopping venue.

As we ring in the New Year, enduro drivers will be preparing their race cars for the ABC auto parts and car crushing sponsored Mountain Madness Enduro Series “Frostbite II” enduro event, on Saturday, January 5th. The first event of the season will see the return of the 4/6 cylinder enduro Trophy Truck division, which will compete for points in 2008, along with 100 lap events for both the 4 cylinder and 6/8 cylinder enduro cars. This will be race #1 of the 7-race series, which concludes with the “Halloween Screamer” double points, extra distance championship event on Saturday, November 1st. Spectator one-on-one drag racing will also be back by popular demand, as part of the enduro program.

The regular season schedule is also beginning to come together, with many exciting shows planned, and a few surprises along the way. The American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association (ATQMRA) winged racers will be back for a dozen shows in 2008, and will join the mighty Mountain Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Thrillers, and the newly revamped 4-cylinder FWDs or “First Win Division”, for the regular Saturday racing card. The FWDs are front wheel drive only compact entry level race cars popular amongst today’s youth and are designed to provide rookie drivers and those new to the sport with the basic knowledge of rules and race procedures that they can expect at all levels.

The annual spring swap meet is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 16th, and many teams will be looking for a deal on last minute items needed to start the season. If you would like to get involved with racing at Mountain Speedway, certainly plan on attending the swap meet and perhaps find yourself getting behind the wheel to experience the riches of victory, for a small investment.
