CheckerWon Motorsports go-kart drivers Artie Pedersen III and
Allan Pedersen both capped off successful 2007 seasons,
collecting a number of awards at the Long Island Karting
Association (LIKA) banquet held on January 20th. Artie
received trophies for finishing 2nd in the Vanderbilt
Series and 4th in year-end points for his class. Allan finished
7th in year-end points standings, earning the coveted "Most
Improved Driver" award for the club overall.
Artie, who is 5'2" and weighs 135 pounds, just turned 11 a
few months ago, and managed to achieve his success in spite of
giving away 23 pounds compared to the majority of his
competitors. After turning in good times during a test session,
the decision was made to move Artie to an "adult" chassis with
the 100 cc class for 2008.
Eight-year-old Allan was moved into the 8- to 13-year-old
Novice class in 2007 after winning in the Kids' class the year
before. He started the season out 14th in points with a fast
time of 1:06. He was awarded the "Most Improved Driver" award on
the merits of improving to 7th by the end of the season, with a
fast time of 43.523 seconds.
Both of these up-and-coming drivers will be in new equipment
in 2008, with each taking aim at the championship title in their
respective classes.
