A nice turnout of race fans and Riverhead Raceway drivers
enjoyed Tim and Steve Halpin and Bob Finan’s annual effort of
holding one of the premier Daytona 500 parties for Long Island
race fans. With a free buffet, Budweiser giveaways, 7 race pools
and a raffle for a 52”, 1080p full HDTV, there was plenty to
keep everyone happy and busy during the long wait for the start
of the 50th Daytona 500. JC’s even provided an indoor space
where people could enjoy the race while having an occasional
cigarette without having to experience the less than perfect
outdoor weather.
The winners of the 7 race pools were almost as shocked as
Ryan Newman to find out they’d won. Each of the following took
home $215 for their picks in the race: Gayle Riccobono, Barbara
Halpin, Chris ‘Cranberry’ Turbush, Debbie Neumann, Tracey &
Tracy Christiansen, Richie Shea, and Glen Ferrante. Richie Shea
also won both of the coolers being given away by Budweiser, one
of which is motorized (see pictures) and bartender Brian Phiel
was the lucky winner of the HDTV raffle. A good time was had by
all in attendance, and we’ve gotten word many hung out until
late enjoying the company of their racing friends. We at LI Jam
thank our hosts once again for inviting us to attend. We look
forward to next year’s party already, as it’s always nice to
spend time with other members of Long Island’s fine racing
community.
