In 2007, the
Riverhead Raceway-based Double Zero Figure 8 racing team notched
a few milestones. Driver Tom "The Altar Boy" Ferrara scored the
team's first-ever win, which was also a personal first in 12
years of trying. The team, co-owned by Ken Sergio and Tom Graff,
is not only committed to racing and winning; it is also a team
that is committed to reaching out to the community.
The Double Zero
racing team includes Figure 8 drivers Tom Ferrara (#0x) and Tom
Graff (#00). Ferrara was the division's Rookie of the Year in
1995, while Graff earned the same honor in 2006. In 2008, plans
call for co-team owner Ken Sergio to split driving duties with
crew member Andrew Washington in a third car during the course
of the season. The team also includes Jonathan Calfa, George
Davis, Ryan Sergio, Al Costa Jr., Brendan Sergio and Rich
Piccirello.
The Double
Zero team sponsors a child through Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Long Island, and they plan to sponsor another child this year.
"We believe that we all have something to offer these young
boys," stated Andrew Washington on behalf of the entire racing
team.
The team has also
taken part in the Walk for Autism. A friend contacted the team
about an autism function for Michael Fleishmann Jr., and the
team went all-out to help. They brought their cars out and with
the help of their sponsor, Long Island Screen Printing, they
were able to donate t-shirts that were given away to attendees.
In addition, the
Double Zero team is supporting Big League Sports Academy's
Spring Training youth baseball camp. The camp is being held at
SouthBay Sportsplex in Calverton March 8th and 9th, and will
feature instruction from former major league baseball players.
Instructors include Long Island Ducks manager and former NY
Yankee Dave LaPoint and former NY Met Kevin Baez; as well as Ray
Navarette, Rob Calfiero, Estee Harris and Eric Colon, among
others. Scheduled to appear on Saturday, March 8th are Buddy
Harrelson and LI Ducks mascot Quacker Jack. Anyone interested in
more information about the camp should contact Andrew Washington
at (631) 294-9873.
