It has been officially announced that CheckerWon Motorsports
driver Artie Pedersen Jr. will be making the jump into the Late
Model division in 2008. The driver, who recorded one win and
finished 6th in Blunderbust points in 2007, plans to run the
full Late Model schedule and contend for "Rookie of the Year" in
the Late Models, behind the wheel of the #51 Monte Carlo.
"We are really looking forward to the challenges and
excitement of the Late Model division," said Pedersen Jr. "With
help from our sponsors and the support of my family and team, I
hope to be competitive and capture the 2008 'Rookie of the Year'
title."
Sherwin-Williams Paint, celebrating 5 years of sponsorship
with Pedersen Jr., has signed on as a sponsor of the Late Model
effort. Also sponsoring the car will be Apex Auto Body, with
whom the driver has a 20-year relationship. Other sponsors will
include Turf Brothers Inc., Sign Design of Mastic and T.J.'s
Hero Shop. Additional sponsors are expected to be announced in
the coming weeks.
In addition to wheeling the Late Model, Pedersen Jr. also
intends to run his #1 Blunderbust as much as his schedule allows
if it is not sold prior to Opening Night. That schedule is a
full one, as Pedersen Jr. was elected to the position of Track
Director for the Long Island Karting Association (LIKA) for the
2008 season. While the team plans to have the car inspected and
ready to race when the gates open for Riverhead's 2008 season,
the feature-winning car is still for sale. Any interested
parties can contact Pedersen Jr. at (631) 878-5773.
In addition to Pedersen Jr.'s racing endeavors in 2008,
CheckerWon Motorsports will also be fielding two go-karts. Artie
Pedersen III and Allan Pedersen are both slated to run the full
2008 LIKA schedule in their respective classes.
While not officially part of CheckerWon Motorsports, Pedersen
Jr.'s brothers Scott and Arne will also be racing at Riverhead
during the upcoming season, brining the number of driving family
members to 5. Scott Pedersen plans to return to the Blunderbust
division in 2008, behind the wheel of his #27. Arne Pedersen
will be behind the wheel of the #34 Figure 8 car, a car fielded
by Mike Mujsce.
