It is one of the most anticipated days of the year if you're
a fan of stock car racing on Long Island and this Saturday April
19th all the waiting will end as Barbara and Jim Cromarty host
the first of two pre-season practice days at Riverhead Raceway.
Best of all, for fans young and old alike, the two practice days
again feature free grandstand admission.
After an off-season of preparation in the racecar shop, teams
will see the first fruits of their labor Saturday afternoon with
all seven divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
taking part in warm-ups. At 12 noon, cars will hit the historic
quarter-mile oval. Practice for the stock car set will run until
4:30 pm when the track will then be turned over to the Enduro
race teams.
Teams from the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights,
Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars
will have over four hours of testing and tuning before the track
is turned over to the Enduro competitors. All divisions of
Enduro racing are welcome to practice at 4:30 pm with cars from
the Grand Enduros leading the way. 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder,
4-Cylinder and 4/6-Cylinder Trucks are expected to take
advantage of the first of two practice days.
Saturday April 26th will find the same format in place for
round two of the pre-season testing and, like April 19th, the
grandstand admission will again be absolutely free!
Pit gates will open at 9:00 am for both practice days and
owners and drivers are reminded that no car will be permitted on
the track without passing Safety Technical Inspection first. If
you did not make it to the track Saturday April 12th for safety
tech or have the NASCAR Officials come to your shop for
inspection, you'll want to be in the pits as soon as the gates
open to get on line for tech.
