Since 1963 the Figure Eight class has thrilled generations of
Long Island race fans with their unique brand of racing. This
Saturday evening will be no different with the cars and stars of
the division competing in the Cromarty Cup 25 at Riverhead
Raceway. That will be just one of seven feature events planned
by Barbara and Jim Cromarty with a 30-lap Charger feature also
on the slate.
Roger Maynor of Bay Shore, the 2007 Figure Eight champion at
the quarter mile, started his championship run with his first
victory of 2007 in the Cromarty Cup 25 last May. Maynor is also
the leading all-time feature event winner in the 56-year history
of Riverhead Raceway.
Among those out to try and capture the Cromarty Cup are Mike
Mujsce, Carl Baxter, Ken Hyde, Tom Graff, Tom Ferrara and Ralph
Tasso among others.
Over in the Charger pit area the field will be wide open for
the win in the 30-lap main event as 2007 Charger champion John
Ellwood of Riverhead has moved up to the NASCAR Modifieds in '08
and will not defend his 2007 race win. Chris Turbush, Chris
McGuire, Steve Ratti, Jeremy McDermott, Timmy Solomito, Daryn
Miller, Thore Foss, Frank Scimeca Sr & Jr and Frank Dumicich Jr
will all be competing.
Both the Cromarty Cup 25 for the Figure Eights and 30-lap
Charger feature will carry double points, with the Chargers
qualifying through time trials.
Rounding out the busy seven for one program will be the
NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks
and Legend Race Cars. Time trials for the Chargers will begin at
4:30 pm with feature racing to go green at 5:30 pm.
