One of the all-time leading winners and popular drivers to
ever strap into a racecar "Dynamite" Dan Turbush of Riverhead
was not at the track Saturday night for the opening of the 2008
season, as he was recovering after major surgery late in the
week.
Doctors had to remove a kidney from Dan at Stony Brook
University Medical Center on Friday after a spot was discovered
on the organ. Turbush had originally gone to the physician for
what he thought was kidney stones before the more serious
discovery was made. A full recovery is expected, but Danny will
not be able to race in 2008.
Aside from his racing accomplishments Danny is an all-around
athlete still active in Flag Football, Softball and Bowling
despite being in his late 50's. He competes in all those
activities alongside his sons Chris and Roger, who also race at
Riverhead Raceway.
Saturday afternoon Chris Turbush told us that his father was
already testing the patience of the medical staff at Stony
Brook, telling them if he couldn't run laps at Riverhead, he'd
run them at the hospital.
Hours later Chris went on to take a very emotional Charger
main event win, while Roger debuted in his Super Pro Truck ride
with a fifth place finish in his first ever race.
Cards of cheer can reach Dan Turbush c/o Riverhead Raceway,
