A stubborn frontal system dotted with rain
and fog forced Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara and Jim
Cromarty to cancel the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program
this past Saturday afternoon.
The rainout also ruined the return of
former NASCAR Modified Rookie of the Year to the quarter mile
oval, Donny Lia of Jericho who recently won his first career
Craftsman Truck Series race on May 24th. Lia was set to sub for
the injured Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett in the TS Haulers NASCAR
Modified for the 50-lap feature. Blewett is on the shelf with a
hand injury perhaps until the next NASCAR WMT Tour race June
19th.
That 50-lap, double point race for the
NASCAR Modifieds and the 30-lap Charger double point event will
now take place this Saturday evening June 7th on Craftsman Tools
night. The Late Models were set to run 50 laps this week, but
that race along with the 25-lap Figure Eight event, each paying
double points have now been switched to the following Saturday
June 14th.
Joining the NASCAR Modified 50 and Charger
30 this week are the Late Models, Figure Eights, Blunderbusts
and Super Pro Trucks, with the Late Models going 25 circuits
while the other divisions run 20.
The 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro also set for
May 31st before the rains hit will be contested this Saturday
June 7th as well, making for an action packed busy race card.
Time trials for the NASCAR Modifieds and
Chargers will start at 4:15 pm with feature event racing going
green at 5:30 pm.
