Axel Anderson Inc. Returns to Sponsor 77-Lap Memorial
July 19th at Riverhead Raceway

In a joint announcement Friday Riverhead Raceway officials and Wayne Anderson of Axel Anderson Inc. announced that the Medford based truck repair and towing outfit will return to sponsor the Tom Baldwin, Richie Evans and Charlie Jarzombek Memorial 77. The race honoring the three legends of NASCAR Modified racing is set for Saturday July 19th.

"We're very excited to have Wayne and Joette Anderson sponsor the Baldwin, Evans and Jarzombek Memorial" Bob Finan noted. "It's only fitting Axel Anderson Inc. sponsor this race, Wayne spent many a summer night up and down the eastern seaboard racing again these legendary drivers."

Of the three, Anderson was particularly close to "Tiger" Tom Baldwin, as he virtually grew-up with Tom in the Patchogue-Medford area. Aside from being ultra-competitive on the racetrack the tandem also played many rounds of golf together when their busy schedules allowed.

Baldwin won some 11 feature events at Riverhead Raceway spanning from 1978 until his last win on June 6th, 1992, while the late great "Charging" Charlie Jarzombek scored a division leading 63-wins at the quarter mile on his way to five driving championships at the famed quarter mile. Jarzombek, Wayne Anderson and Don Howe each share the lead for titles at Riverhead.

Former nine-time NASCAR National Modified champion Richie Evans was a popular figure when he towed from Rome, N.Y. to race on the Island, with most of his victories coming at Islip Speedway. Evans did author one Riverhead victory on August 28th 1985, the very first year of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Annually the Baldwin, Evans, and Jarzombek 77 has been a race not to be missed and the 2008 edition is shaping up the very same. Among those planning to be on hand for the race, include another former multi-time NASCAR National Modified champion Jerry Cook and former track announcer Mike Callinoff.

Make your plans now to be at Riverhead Raceway as three legends of NASCAR Modified racing are fondly recalled in the 77-lap Baldwin, Evans, and Jarzombek Memorial by Axel Anderson Inc.
