This coming Sunday June 29th, the EEKR go-karters
return to Riverhead Raceway for Race #6 of the 2008 season.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. and the drivers’ meeting is scheduled
for 9:30 a.m. Practice will begin at 10 a.m., with heat and main
races to follow.
Acting President Dave Brigati has announced
that five classes will be picked from a hat, with the winner in
each of those five classes receiving a new tire donated by WPW
Growers of Calverton.
EEKR racers are coming up to the halfway
point of the season and so far there are a few drivers from the
2007 season who are continuing their winning ways in the
2008. Four notable drivers are Tommy Doelger, Kyle Soper, Alexa
Orlando, and Joe Hodge. Doelger was the 2007 JR Champ Animal
Champion, and he is continuing to stay at the top in a new
class, SR Champ Animal. Soper was the 2007 JR I Champion who
moved up a class to JR II. Soper currently holds the JR II
points lead. Orlando was the Champion in 2007 in the JR II
Class, and she has moved up a class to JR Restricted, where she
continues to show that she knows her way around the track. In
2007, Hodge took the Championship in the SR Champ Over 35
class and this year he hopes to continue his winning ways. In
order to do so, he will have to contend with such karters as
Chuck Sullum and Mike Maskulyak, as only 20 points currently
separate these top three competitors. This class has the
tightest points race going into race #6.
All drivers, crew members and fans who plan to attend race #6
are reminded that temperatures have been at an all-time high,
and it is critical to remain hydrated.
