Drivers Begin to Enter Fall's Newest Legends Car Classic

The October 25 NELMA Late Model Challenge at St. Johns, Pennsylvania’s Mountain Speedway will be joined for the first time by Legends cars for the inaugural NELMA Legends Car Fall Classic. Many Legends car drivers are eager to test their might against the Northeast’s best in an event that is expected to draw great numbers.

James Pape Jr.—Mattituck, N.Y.
#18 Plycon Van Lines/Plycar Ford

Pape, a second-generation racer, calls the quarter-mile Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway his home. His father, James Sr., raced late models during the ’90s and early ’00s. With some of his father’s old racing buddies at the track, James Jr. hopes to perform well and make his father proud.

Tom Sherman—Farmingdale, N.Y.
#27 Oval Speed Unlimited Ford

Sherman is a 30-year veteran of motorsports with a wide range of experience in race cars ranging from SCCA formula cars to late models to Legends cars. Sherman is currently second in points at Riverhead Raceway and looks to carry over his success to the NELMA Legends Car Fall Classic.

Kevin Nowak—Medford, N.Y.
#53 Nowak Motorsports Ford

As a kid, Nowak raced on two wheels in motocross, earning many wins and titles along the way. After a few years racing enduros, he decided to move into a Legends car. Nowak, an eager learner, has been touring around the Northeast to gain experience with his new ride. Nowak will try to put his knowledge to work in an effort to find the way to victory lane.

John Visconti—Brooklyn, N.Y.
#74 Crossfire Telecom Ford

Visconti, an accomplished go-kart racer with numerous championships under his belt, moved into Legends cars this year. The Visconti name is renown on Long Island, N.Y., as John’s father, Cookie, was an accomplished late model racer and former champion at the now defunct Freeport (N.Y.) Speedway. Visconti is hoping the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for the inaugural NELMA Legends Car Classic.

This year’s NELMA Legends Car Fall Classic on Saturday, October 25 is shaping up to be the who’s who of Legends car racing. The Legends cars will join the fourth annual NELMA Late Model Challenge, a 100-lap race featuring the Late Model’s best. For more information and to sign up, visit www.nelmaracing.com.
