Riverhead Raceway Memory Lane Cars & Stars Sunday, August
24th
Veteran Riverhead Raceway personality Bob Finan will turn
back the clock Sunday August 24th at the historic quarter mile
oval when he presents Memory Lane Cars & Stars starting at 10:00
am. The highlight of the daylong day of nostalgia will be the
Vintage Race Cars making several appearances on the track during
the afternoon hours.
"If you were a participant or fan of Islip Speedway, Freeport
Stadium or here at Riverhead Raceway from the days gone by, well
this event is tailor made for you," Finan noted. Indeed folks
are encouraged to bring out a pop-up tent, a table, and barbeque
and of course their old photo albums and sit back and relive
those days gone by. "Hey, bring your DVD player or VCR and plug
into our 15-amp outlets on the pole and show some old tapes"
Finan added.
As for the Vintage Race Cars, it is expected the Artie Schenk
of Blast-It Sandblasting will have the restored Ernie Maynor #82
and Chris Young #49 Figure Eight cars on hand. Also Bob hopes
the #1 Coupe of "Charging" Charlie Jarzombek, the #23 Monza once
driven by the likes of Ed Brunnhoelzl Jr. and Mike Ewanitsko and
the #00 of Jimmy Reed will also take laps around the track.
Finan also praised the efforts of the Bacik brothers, "Kevin
& Steven Bacik have put their heart and soul into this event,
Kevin has sold DVD'S all year long to raise tow money for the
drivers coming in from out-of-state and of course Steve hits
many of the Vintage shows in the Northeast promoting this day."
The Memory Lane Cars & Stars event is open to all those with
Vintage Race Cars of any type that raced in the Northeast and
teams should note it's expected that the cars will get three to
four rounds on the racetrack.
Admission for adults is a mere $10, including those with
Vintage Race cars. There is no rain date for the show. For more
information please call Bob Finan at 631-842-RACE Monday through
Friday 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
