September 13th National Demo Title Worth $1,500 at Riverhead
Barbara & Jim Cromarty will again be rolling out the "red
carpet" for the best of the best in Demolition Derbies when they
present the 2008 National Demolition Derby championship on
Saturday September 13th at Riverhead Raceway. The Miller Lite
night title will be worth $1,500 to the last car standing.
Demolition Derby cars and stars will be towing to Riverhead
Raceway in hopes of capturing the National Demolition Derby
crown that in 2007 was won by "The Killer Bee" Bob Benison of
Lindenhurst. However shortly after winning the 2007 event
Benison announced his retirement from the sport wanting to go
out as the National Champion.
That leaves a wide-open field of drivers to vie for the 2008
title headed-up by two drivers who fought Benison to the end
last year, Jimmy "Wildman Primmy" Hummel of Bay Shore and Ken
Mack of Raleigh, N.C. Those two drivers saw their car hopelessly
locked together handing the victory to Benison.
Other drivers looking to invade Riverhead Raceway from out of
state with hopes of taking the 2008 win include Scott "Big Mack"
McNamee of Raleigh, N.C., Jimmy Mann of Raynham, Mass, Steve
Rossics of Brick, NJ, Bob McIntyre of Wall, NJ and former
National Demolition Derby champion Eugene Malverty of Spring
Hill, Florida.
Defending the local turf will be 2007 Riverhead Demolition
Derby champion Michael "Cheesebox" Rommeney of Maspeth, who
could very well come to the 2008 event as track champion for a
second consecutive year. Among the Riverhead regulars ready to
take on all comers are, Jimmy "The Kid" White of Southampton,
Tim Mulqueen of Levittown, Michael "Gravel" Buksa of Islip,
Michael Wahl of East Islip, Matt Wahl of Islip Terrace and Tommy
"the Wildchild" Walkowiak of Ridge, who recently won a
Demolition Derby at the Orange County Speedway.
Saturday September 13th is sure to be a rock 'em, sock 'em
night when it comes to determining the 2008 Miller Lite National
Demolition Derby champion and all comers are welcome to try and
win the $1,500 top prize.
Also on the card will be the Chargers, Blunderbusts and Super
Pro Trucks who'll race in 30-lap feature events with time trial
qualifying. The "World Famous" Figure Eight stock cars will race
20 circuits with a Full Sized School Bus Demolition Derby
completing a family fun night at Riverhead Raceway.
