World Series to Bring Out
the Very Best
The 35th annual edition of the XTRAMART World Series of
Speedway Racing will, once again, bring out the very best race
teams for an incredible three-day, fourteen division race
weekend. The event, the biggest of its kind found anywhere in
the country, will be held at the Thompson International Speedway
the weekend of October 17-19, 2008.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will share the top billing with
the incredible winged Super Modifieds of ISMA. The mighty
Midgets of NEMA will also play a major role when they take to
the high banks at Thompson. In all, fourteen different divisions
of race cars and trucks will participate in this annual racing
extravaganza that attracts literally hundreds of competitors and
thousands of race fans.
The run for the title of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will
more than likely come down to the last race of the season which
is the World Series. The points battle is very close with Ted
Christopher leading the count and looking for his first
championship ring. However, Matt Hirschman, also looking for his
first title and Todd Szegedy seeking his second crown, are both
very much in the race to clinch the top spot. The outcome of the
150-lap race for the WMT at Thompson will determine the winner
in that championship drive.
Chris Perley has been the driver to beat in the ISMA Super
Modifieds. However, when these cars come to Thompson and they
bolt on the wings, almost anything is possible. Perley will face
stiff competition from Russ Wood, Mick Lichty, Jeff Holbrook and
many more drivers who strap themselves into these rocket ships
on wheels. The most famous of the Super drivers, Bentley Warren,
is also expected to make another run at Thompson.
NEMA points leader, Randy Cabral, will lead his exciting
division into the World Series. Cabral was victorious on his
last visit to Thompson in July and will be out to sweep NEMA's
schedule at "The Big T" this year. It won't be easy for the
Plymouth, MA driver as he will face very tough competition from
veteran Joey Payne, the super-talented Bobby Santos III and
wonderful mix of young and talented drivers and a host of true
veterans of Midget racing battles.
Thompson's NASCAR Whelen All American Series will be in full
force for this huge season-ending weekend. Sunoco Modifieds, Pro
Stocks, Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Thompson Modifieds and
Mini Stocks will be the official representatives of the Thompson
Speedway. The newly crowned champions in each of these divisions
will be out to prove that they can carry their new titles beyond
the regular season and into the 2009 racing season.
Each year fans love the three Outlaw divisions and the ARTS
Truck Series. These divisions are exciting to watch and have
become fan favorites over the years. The race teams in these
four divisions travel from far and wide to participate on the
biggest track on which they race all year long. The competition,
in a word, is fierce.
Race fans have already begun to move in and set up their campers
for this huge race weekend-party weekend at Thompson. It's the
grand finale of the racing season and attendance has become a
must for fans that will face another long, harsh New England
winter.
Tickets, good for all three days, are available by calling the
Thompson track office. The complete schedule and up to the
minute news on the XTRAMART World Series is available on the
Thompson web site.
