Recently, it was announced that Leah Maynor and several other
interested parties were undertaking the creation of a points
fund for drivers in the Modified, Late Model, Charger,
Blunderbust, Figure 8 and Super Pro Trucks classes. The fund has
been established as the R.A.C.E. (Race and Collect Earnings)
driver fund. With the offseason settling upon everyone, the
first fundraiser for the fund has been announced. A Chinese
auction and bowling party will be held at East Islip Lanes on
Saturday, January 24th at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person.
Included in the price of the ticket are two games of bowling
– one regular game and one fun game (optional) – as well as shoe
rental and tickets for the auction. Extra auction tickets will
be sold during the event for those participants who want to have
an extra chance to win some of the donated prizes. Many have
donated baskets for the event, and the list of items includes:
Blockbuster baskets; Avon baskets; gift certificates for TGI
Fridays, Applebees, Chilis, Home Depot, Unique Golf, and salons,
and for such services as car washes and oil changes; tools;
candle baskets; board games; food baskets; a Lottery ticket
tree; liquor baskets; and books. Denise of Denise's Photos will
also be making baskets up, with the winners getting such items
as mouse pads, mugs, or picture frames with the driver of their
choice on them.
The bowler who scores the highest game of the night will be
awarded $50. It has been announced that a cash bar will be
available during the event. Tickets can be purchased from Leah
Maynor, Kathy Kraft, Maryann Giordano, and Gayle Walkowiak.
Anyone looking for more information or to purchase tickets
should send email to
racedriverfund@aim.com. Those who wish to attend the event
are urged to purchase tickets as soon as possible, as the
bowling alley would also like to open the event to those outside
of the racing community. Presently, drivers from each of the
included divisions have begun to purchase tickets, and the
fundraiser is sure to draw many who want to support the racers
who put forth their effort all season long.
At the start of the 2009 season, drivers in the included
divisions will be given the opportunity to participate in the
driver fund, which will benefit the top five in each division at
the end of the year. Each driver will be asked to contribute $20
during the first two weeks of the 2009 season in order to
participate. The money collected from the drivers will go
directly into the fund for that driver's respective division.
There will be 50/50 tickets sold all season long to benefit the
fund as well. If a driver chooses not to participate and
finishes in the top five in points, the money will pass to the
next participating driver.
