Team Full Throttle development driver Chris Young, 15, will
be taking some time off from his budding legends car career this
January. The Long Island native has been invited to the
Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (PYIC) in Washington,
D.C. as a select member of inaugural scholars. Chris was
invited as a high-achieving alumni of Congressional Youth
Leadership Council (CYLC) and the National Youth Leadership
Forum (NYLF).
As an inaugural scholar, Young will be present in Washington
to listen to keynote speakers including General Colin L. Powell,
Nobel Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore and several
other world-renowned, marquee speakers. Young will have the
opportunity to participate in topical debates and conversation
with prominent political analysts. His time in the nation’s
capital as an inaugural scholar will also feature private access
to the Smithsonian Institute, visits to the National Mall’s
monuments and museums and the opportunity to view the
Inauguration, Oath of Office and Inaugural Address of
President-elect Barack Obama.
Team Full Throttle vice president and founder, Tom Baker,
says the invitation shows the type of leadership and excellence
that the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver development program
aspires for its racers to achieve on and off the track.
“We’re proud that Chris’ efforts have been rewarded with this
unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of a
historic event for our nation. The memories and lessons learned
from this experience will always be with him,” Baker said.
The PYIC curriculum was developed by former high school
teacher and social science department chairperson Dr. Marguerite
Regan. Under Dr. Regan's direction, the curriculum provides
leadership training and is designed to educate and inspire
students by giving them a unique opportunity to gain a deeper
understanding of the United States’ electoral history and their
roles in democracy.
Chris Young is a 15-year-old Legends car racer. He’s been
around racing his entire life, and recently began driving
himself. He hopes to gain experience in the legends cars before
making a move up the racing ladder.
Chris is a member of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver
