From drivers to car owners to crew members and fans, familiar
faces turned out in force to take in the excitement of the
Daytona 500 at the 14th Annual LI Daytona 500 party hosted by
Bob Finan and Steve and Tim Halpin. The doors opened on the
event at 11:30 a.m., and fans continued coming through those
doors for hours.
The crowd filled the pub area of JC's Restaurant in
Manorville, and the catering room was needed to handle the
overflow crowd. The demand was so high to get into the race
pools that a total of nine pools were run. Door prizes were also
given out to some lucky attendees.
While everyone was excited to get the NASCAR season
officially underway, it was obvious that there is a good deal of
anticipation for the start of the racing season here on Long
Island. Riverhead Raceway's season will kick off with two
preseason practice days on April 18th and April 25th.
Competition will begin on May 2nd with the first Whelen
All-American Series races, and the Legends and Enduro seasons
will officially get underway on May 3rd. The full 2009 schedule
is available at
