Known as one of the best banquets in auto racing, the annual
Suffolk Association of Figure Eight Racing (S.A.F.E.R.) banquet
will be held Saturday evening March 21st, from 8:00 pm until
1:00 am at the Smithtown Landing Country Club. Roger Maynor of
Bay Shore will be honored as the 2008 S.A.F.E.R. champion.
Roger Maynor will of course walk off with the lion's share of
hardware at the bash, but he'll also receive a largest chunk of
the 2008 S.A.F.E.R. point fund, which will be one of the most
lucrative funds in quite sometime. That success came from the
2008 50/50 raffles, a S.A.F.E.R. tradition that was headed by
Leah Maynor for 2008.
Aside from Maynor, the top ten in S.A.F.E.R. points will take
home a handsome check, with the top five also earning trophies.
The usual array of S.A.F.E.R. special awards including the
Member of the Month, Rookie of the Year and many others will be
presented at the dinner.
The 2008 S.A.F.E.R. Hall of Fame induction will take place
and among the honored will be a driver who dedicated more than
four decades of his life to Figure Eight racing and S.A.F.E.R.,
a driver who always had the most immaculate equipment at Islip
Speedway or Riverhead Raceway.
A full five-hour open bar will start serving as the green
flag waves at 8:00 pm and a hot & cold buffet will be available
with a D.J. providing the tunes until the wee hours of the
morning.
Tickets for this very special night are $65 per-person and to
order yours today call Joe Saraceno of S.A.F.E.R. at
631-981-0569 after 6:00 pm. Tickets are available at the door
and the dinner is open to the racing public, whether you're a
S.A.F.E.R. member or not, or whether or not your race in the
Figure Eights.
The Smithtown Landing Country Club is on the scenic north
shore of Suffolk County, on Landing Avenue, north of Main Street
in Smithtown.
