Based on the success of the Legends season opener held at
Bethel Motor Speedway this past Saturday, the track management
today announced that they would once again guarantee $500 to the
winner of the event scheduled for April 25th. It is yet another
initiative on the part of the speedway management to develop and
strengthen the Legends program at the track.
The roster for last Saturday's season opener included driving
talent from across the Northeast and beyond. Among those who
entered the race were the 2008 New York State Semi-Pro champ
Kevin Nowak, 2007 Chemung Speedrome Legends Rookie of the Year
George Cushman, and Minnesota competitors Tim Brockhouse and Joe
Graf. When the checkered flag flew, 2008 New Jersey State
Semi-Pro champ Mike Alcaro grabbed the win and the $500 payday.
Track management stated, "We were pleased with the turnout of
Legends for our season opener, and we want to take the
opportunity this week to accomplish two things - to thank those
competitors who took part in last weekend's event, and to give
other drivers some incentive to come and see what we have going
on at Bethel Motor Speedway in 2009."
For the 2009 season, several steps have been taken to aid in the
development of both the Legends and Bandolero classes at the
quarter-mile asphalt oval speedway. Both television and print
advertising are being used to reach out to fans and potential
competitors, making residents in the area aware that the
speedway is open, and that there is affordable racing going on
at the facility.
Grandstand admission has been set at just $5, giving families an
inexpensive option for Saturday night entertainment.
Thanks to division sponsor McGraw Moving & Storage, the regular
weekly Legends purse will feature a $300 payoff for the winner.
McGraw stepped up to offer the $500 to win for the season
opener, and guaranteed the $500 for the winner of the April 25th
feature. They are also making it possible for the speedway to
waive the entry fee for Bandolero drivers throughout the 2009
season.
One of the most prestigious events scheduled to be run at Bethel
Motor Speedway this season is LegendStock 2009, slated for
August 15th. The race already has an advertised purse of
$3,000., with the event winner collecting $1,500. of that total.
Full details about the race are available online at
www.legendstock2009.com.
"We hope that drivers in the area will take advantage of the
opportunity to come to Bethel and get some seat time in
preparation for the LegendStock 2009 race, while also having the
added bonus of a $500 payday for the winner this Saturday,"
track management commented.
On Saturday, April 25th, the pit gates are scheduled to open at
1 p.m. so that drivers can take advantage of an extended
practice session. Hot laps will take place at 5 p.m., with a
driver's meeting at 6:30 and racing to follow. In addition to
Legends and Bandoleros, the program for the night includes the
Dirt Sportsman, BMS Modified, ECS Auto Stores Pro Stock, Street
Stock, and 4 Cylinder classes. Full details and a 2009 schedule
for the speedway can be obtained at
