NASCAR Foundation Night Set For Riverhead Raceway May 16th

Barbara and Jim Cromarty will proudly play host to NASCAR Foundation Night set for Saturday May 16th at their Riverhead Raceway featuring a full slate of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing. The annual Cromarty Cup 25 for the Figure Eight division will highlight the race program.

Over the 33-years that the Cromarty's have promoted stock car racing on Long Island they've been staunch supporters of NASCAR both at Islip Speedway and now at Riverhead Raceway, which they purchased in 1985. The NASCAR Foundation Night at Riverhead comes just one day after the actual nationwide NASCAR Day on Friday May 15th.

Since the inception of the NASCAR Foundation in 2004 the NASCAR Day and the sale of commemorative NASCAR Day lapel pins have raised over $5 million dollars for worthwhile caused and charities. The NASCAR Foundation benefits various children's causes along with animal welfare & rescue and nature conservancy programs. Famed actor Kevin Costner is the celebrity spokesperson in 2009 for NASCAR Day.

In 2008 alone the NASCAR Foundation donated some $1.5 million dollars to 50 organizations with $450,000 earmarked for the Victory Junction Camp.
Locally at Riverhead Raceway the sale of the NASCAR Day pins at the historic quarter mile oval were very successful in 2008 with nearly $1,000 raised in an effort spearheaded by co-chief stewards Mike Cappiello and Jim Maggio.

Indeed last summer the NASCAR Foundation made a donation to a Long Island based animal welfare & rescue concern when they presented a $5,000 gift to Port Washington based North Shore Animal League America at a luncheon at the Garden City Hotel attended by Greg Biffle and his wife Nicole.

NASCAR Day lapel pins will again be available at Riverhead Raceway in 2009 and to purchase your see either Mike Cappiello or Jim Maggio in the pit area at any NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program all season long. Or if you prefer, you can just head over to the souvenir stand and the pins will also be available there. Either way, it's a great charity and one Riverhead Raceway is proud to be able to help. It is the goal of the Cromarty's and everyone at Riverhead to double the donation through the lapel pin sales this spring and summer.

Aside from the Cromarty Cup 25 for the Figure Eights, the Late Models will go 50-laps with time trials and be joined by the NASCAR Modifieds Super Pro Trucks, Legend Race Cars and a 8-Cylinder Enduro. Qualifying is set for 4:30 pm and feature racing is set for 6:00 pm.
