When the cars and stars of the Enduro race series hit the
Riverhead Raceway asphalt to start the 24th year of Enduro
racing Sunday afternoon May 3rd the race winners that afternoon
and all season long will earn CARQUEST Auto Parts trophies.
Ever since the first Enduro program Barbara and Jim Cromarty
presented on May 24th, 1986, the Enduro racers in the five
different classes they run have become a staple at the 58-year
old facility. As track announcer Jeff Bressler noted several
years back, Riverhead indeed is the Enduro capital and that is
thanks to the loyalty and support of its competitors.
Gene Burbol of Gene's 112 Auto Service together with Lee Becker
the Long Island CARQUEST Auto Parts district manager once again
put the program in place for 2009, with a new twist. On the
"stand alone" Saturday night Enduro races, of which there are
more of this year, CARQUEST will award the top three drivers a
trophy" Burbol announced. That policy will be in effect for the
"stand alone" races only and not the season ending September
26th program.
CARQUEST Auto Parts will again provide the championship trophies
for all Enduro classes at the end of the year at their awards
dinner, as they did in 2008.
The exciting and popular Enduro action will go green at
Riverhead on Sunday May 3rd at 12:30 pm featuring the Grand
Enduros who'll be joined by the 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder,
4/6-Cylinder and 4-Cylinder divisions. The Legend Race Cars, a
Car Rollover Contest and one On One Spectator Drags will
complete the busy lid-lifter.
